This is a detail of a lovely display of clay pottery (unknown style) on a wooden shelf attached to an adobe wall in Taos. I shot the scene from a variety of vantage points, and settled on this detail to tell my story. The image was enhanced by masking the pots in Photoshop, desaturating (removing color) the background, then applying a "sepia" tone, leaving the original colors of the pots intact. I then blurred the background to emphasize the pottery, and yield a kind of contemporary view-camera style where only a minimal plane of focus is maintained throughout the scene. I'd have liked to shoot this scene under more bright overcast conditions, as opposed to the harsh morning direct sunlight, to maintain detail in the shadows. |
