It strikes me as somewhat ironic that I set out to record THE postcard image of the Rockies, by shooting the infamous Maroon Bells at daybreak. To my chagrin, however, daybreak on this particular summer day eased onto the scene in the form of a very low ceiling. The irony is that I recorded a much more interesting scene (to me), that is very much reminiscent of the Rockies, yet quite unlike the standard postcard image that I had hoped to record. The Queen-Anne' Lace in the foreground was highlighted with some light from my off-camera fill-flash, just to enhance the contrast and drama of the mood. I'm always looking and hoping for "magic light", and often am surprised to find that magic in tranquil, low-contrast scenes like this one. |
