Half Dome in Yosemite National Park is one of those natural icons that has been photographed and painted so many times that it is difficult for me to be automatically inspired to record it. That' not to say the geologic feature itself is uninspiring--quite the contrary; the topography and geology of Yosemite is breathtaking. Despite the inherent creative blocks to rendering such common landmarks, for example, if one simply turns 90-180 degrees in either direction from this view on Olmsted Point, magnificent vistas and photo opportunities abound. Within seconds of framing the final rays of sunset on the west face of Half Dome, I about-faced and found the most glorious crimson light bathing 12,590' Mt. Conness. I can thank my wife, Chris for always reminding me to look behind. |
