As a former geologist, I take great pleasure in the lithologic offerings of the semi-arid Owens Valley.  Inspired by the texture of the granite boulders in Buttermilk Country, I waited for the rising sun to rake across this abstract frame to emphasize their gritty pitted surfaces.  It wasn't until later that I sensed the composition's anthropomorphic qualities that I'd missed in the field.
