Frosty autumn morning near Sunrise on Yosemite National Park's Tioga Road. One morning Chris and I set out in a rush to photograph the sunrise at May Lake in the Yosemite high country. We were running a little late, and I was in such a hurry to get to the lake (about a one mile hike) by sunrise that I sped off in the wrong direction on the trail. While I suspected I had done as much within about half a mile of jogging, I kept plodding ahead hoping I hadn't. I was two miles off course by the time I stumbled on to this frosty field near Tenaya Lake, and now feel that I experienced something more special than the sunrise I had aimed for. The magenta color cast in this image was added in post-production. Often when I'm making images in chilly, bleak, or twilight conditions, I will later exaggerate the blues and magentas that more subtly bathe the subjects during these times.
