Moonrise with alpenglow on the face of Half Dome, Yosemite National Park, California. As is so often the case with landscape photography, the moon has been composited into this sunset rendering of the giant granite monolith, Half Dome. In this case, this moon was actually photographed in the evening sky from Yosemite Valley about 8 months later. This image is a good example of the color of light imparted by the last rays of the setting sun--the granite of Half Dome is decidedly grey.
