Harris Hawk
(Parabuteo unicinctus)
Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Tucson, AZ

The docent at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson was kind enough to allow me to photograph this regal raptor of the desert while it perched on her hand. On-camera fill-flash did a nice job of opening up the shadows underneath, which otherwise would've gone nearly black. The Harris Hawk is a very common hawk of the desert southwest, often observed on telephone poles as you drive down the highway.
