I encountered this placid scene at a location that now appears much different. This drainage in my previous home-town of Reston was routinely dammed by a family of beaver for many years. They have moved on now for reasons unknown to me, and the area is now dry. I wish the beaver would return, and with them, scenes like this.

UPDATE 24 March 2003:æ After years of abandonment the beaver have returned to the Glade Creek drainage in Reston! æWith a hearty dam emplaced, this particular spot looks once again just like this, though as you might have guessed, the goose has moved.
