This Barn Owl was photographed in captivity by way of a local Maryland DNR program called "Scales and Tales". Four times a year (corresponding with the seasons) captive birds of prey are displayed in natural settings for photo opportunities. Photographers must pay a nominal fee towards maintaining the program, which is centered on the rehabilitation of injured wild birds. Those that can't return to the wild are given a permanent home, and photographers can make cool images like this. All of the birds are tethered, so it is a challenge to shoot them without showing their tethers. However, with the magic of photoshop, these distractions are easily dealt with: Simply clone over them! |
